Durham University is seeking a new Principal for Collingwood College to lead them into the next phase of their development. A globally outstanding centre of teaching and research excellence, a collegiate community of extraordinary people, a unique and historic setting - Durham is a university like no other. We believe that inspiring our people to do outstanding things at Durham enables Durham people to do outstanding things in the world.
With 17 colleges located across Durham City, and more due to follow between now and 2027, our residential college communities make Durham a highly distinctive place to study and engage in the wider student experience. Collingwood College has a particularly strong character. Sporting excellence has always been a proud part of our identity; Team Collingwood has won the inter-collegiate sports trophy for thirteen consecutive years. The arts are equally important, and more recent investment has seen the introduction of an industry-standard music and recording studio and performing arts centre. We end each year with a huge music festival organised by our college bar, The Stag's Head.
Crucial to each college's success is the person appointed to lead, champion, fundraise for and manage a community of passionate, engaged and activated students, staff and alumni. Accountable to the Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Colleges & Student Experience, the new Principal will be responsible (together with the University's Student Support and Wellbeing Directorate) for the well-being and personal development of students and staff in the College; for driving the College's distinctive combination of opportunities for challenge and personal development; for the College's sound functioning; and for devising, agreeing and implementing strategic plans aligned to the delivery of the University's overall mission and aims.
The new Principal will be an inspirational and caring leader with a strong personal commitment to Durham's collegiate values and student welfare. The successful candidate will each be either a world leading academic at Associate or full Professorial level, or alternatively, a leader in an area where their experience could support wider university objectives.
