Job Title: CAD/BIM Technician

Department: Estates and Facilities, Estates Operations

Grade: Grade 6

Salary range: 30,505 - 36,924

Working arrangements: Full time (35 hours per week) primarily Monday to Friday

There may be a requirement to work evenings and weekends, depending on business need

Hybrid working (minimum of three days per week onsite, depending on business need, following the initial induction/ training period, which will be full time onsite)

The Role and Department

As CAD/BIM Technician, you will support the Space Management team in the updating and production of AutoCAD drawings and Revit Models, ensuring they are accurate, up-to-date and reflect any changes across the University estate.

Integral to this role will be identifying and gathering information from a variety of sources to ensure record drawings show the latest information. This may include the need to conduct low-level onsite surveys of spaces and assets.

You will also contribute to the design, development and technical delivery of projects and achieve enduring results.

The Estates and Facilities Directorate provides essential services to Durham University and is responsible for managing, maintaining and developing the infrastructure and building fabric of the various campuses.

Your application should cover the following criteria:

Essential Criteria

Qualifications/Experience

1. Five GCSEs at least Grade C or level four (or equivalent) including English Language and Mathematics.

2. Recognised professional qualification in AutoCAD discipline, or significant similar experience.

3. Recognised professional qualification in Revit/BIM discipline, or significant similar experience.

4. Experience of providing advice and guidance to a range of customers and colleagues.

5. Experience of implementing policies and procedures.

Skills/Abilities/Knowledge

6. Good spoken and written communication skills including the ability to develop effective working relationships, both internally and externally.

7. Strong digital competence across a range digital devices and apps including digital communication tools, Microsoft 365 applications, and business systems.

8. Industry and regulatory knowledge supported by relevant courses or certifications

9. Knowledge and experience of conducting site surveys.

10. Knowledge and experience of health and safety issues such as risk assessments.

11. Ability to solve problems and decide on and plan appropriate solutions.

12. Ability to provide support for infrastructure projects e.g. building changes.

13. Ability to work collaboratively with other team members to ensure the delivery of high-quality services.

14. Ability to participate in networks to share and discuss good practice and exchange information

15. Experience of working in a Higher Education institute.

16. Experience of working with BIM models.

17. Committed to continuing professional development.

  • Maintain asset registers ensuring that the administration of registers is up-to-date.
  • Create and maintain CAD library for all building plans, 2D and 3D models.

  • Develop and improve services by taking part in meetings, working groups and committees.
  • Explain and demonstrate to others how to carry out tasks and use a range of tools, machinery, equipment and digital services.
  • Liaise with staff in other areas to provide advice in relation to any structural, physical or virtual environment changes.
  • Create good working relationships, including internal and external networks which allow you to increase your knowledge and skills, while swapping information with peers.
  • Build relationships with contractors and third-party suppliers to share good practice, exchange information and work together on joint initiatives.
