Are

valued? My client is seeking a Service Locator to join their growing team and
support major UK construction and infrastructure projects.
About
the Role
As
a Service Locator, you will conduct surveys, collect data, and produce maps
using specialist tools and technology. Your work directly ensures the safety of
construction teams and prevents damage to critical underground utilities.
The
position involves regular travel across London and the surrounding regions.
Key
Responsibilities
Using
geophysical techniques and survey equipment, you will locate and mark
underground services to ensure safe excavation. Responsibilities include:

Carrying out physical checks and surveys of underground utilities within
designated work areas.

Using tools such as GPR, CAT, and Genny to detect services and marking them
clearly on the ground.
-
Authorising and enforcing permits-to-dig, ensuring all activities follow strict
safety protocols.
-
Reviewing method statements and ensuring teams understand service locations and
risks.
-
Taking pre-work photographs and maintaining accurate records.
-
Managing and updating service drawings and reporting discrepancies.
-
Investigating uncharted utilities when required.
-
Maintaining service markings throughout the permit duration.
-
Ensuring no work begins without a valid permit.
-
Communicating clearly with site teams and clients, enforcing exclusion zones,
and completing checklists.
This
role is well suited to veterans with strong situational awareness, methodical
work habits, and experience following/issuing safety procedures.
Skills,
Knowledge & Experience
They
welcome applications from military veterans who can bring:
-
2–3 years’ utility surveying experience.
-
Knowledge of electromagnetic location & ground penetrating radar.
-
A solid understanding with PAS 128, TSA standards, and modern survey equipment.
-
Strong task management, adaptability, and operational discipline.
-
Experience working with technical equipment or in engineering, signals, EOD,
telecoms, surveying, construction, or infrastructure roles.
-
Confidence working in outdoor environments and engaging with site teams.
-
Understanding of safe systems of work, risk assessments, and procedural
compliance.
-
A full manual driving licence.
Desirable
Qualifications
-
CSCS card (can be obtained before starting).
-
QCF Level 3 or Level 5 in utility mapping.
